ok, i think we've heard a lot of things that people don't like about vista. But, unless i've missed it, there really hasn't been a topic about the points of vista that r easier to use. So, what makes u think that Vista is better then XP?
Hi all,
I think the volume control in Vista is better that XP because you can control each program's volume separately. I als like the way Vista does what use to be Add/Remove programs. In Vista, you can move through the programs list with just the first letter of the program or you can also press home or end or even page up or page down.
I don't care what anybody says. I'm not going to put XP on my machine.
I also like the add remove programs in vista. I like the search box and sound scheme as well. I also heard something a while ago that you could assign shortcuts like windows plus 1 2 and so on to items on the quick launch toolbar. I am not sure but I would think that you could get programs to do most or all these things in xp. I like vista a lot but you should always consider whether the system you put it on is powerful enough to run it.
The only things I can say are nice are the way, as Dave had mentioned, is the individual volume adjustment. That is it. I really do not see anything new or beneficial to especially home users. Vista just makes things more complex and difficult for the end user. I honestly, from a technical standpoint, don't know what is even good or beneficial about vista. In fact, even though the volume adjustment is nicer, the lay out is incredibly embarrassing compared to xp. I bet, as Brandon has said, you could grab a program to adjust individual settings for audio for xp. But from a technical standpoint I really don't understand why people say vista is nicer. Personally there is nothing good about vista. don't get me wrong, if Viena, or Windows 7 is nicer, I will switch to it no questions asked, but only under certain surcumstances..
Lol, at post 4, though I do agree with you about the volume control thing, its spelled Vienna.
Seeing as you did start the Windows 7, Vienna discussion. I'll continue it.
This is to all Windows users, and other OS users as well, if you could write to Microsoft, what would the 5 main things that you believe should be changed in Vienna to make adoption by corporate and power users a surefire thing?
I didn't use vista much myself i only saw it a few times at friend's houses. I would say the start menu is nice because we can type something in the box and it will open. It is not like run in XP because in vista you don't have to write it correctly. the computer will try and guess what you want and give you suggestions. Also the new sapi5 voice sounds impressive.
But i like xp and i will use it as much as i can on my system. My laptop had vista when i bought it but i bought an xp cd and we formated the computer and put xp on it.
that's what I heard in a podcast for miriani the guy was using vista, and that was the first time I had heard that u could type in something in the search field, and get results. I haven't heard the sappy voices though.
The voices are ok on vista. There is only one and it is called anna. It reminds me a lot of those voices that come with jaws (i think they are real speak.) It sounds ok but is laggy just like these voices that i just mentioned. You might think i am crazy but i would rather use mary mike or sam because they do not have horrible lag on a system.
I don't prefer those voices, however each to their own and the one drawback in vista is that narrator god help me if you have to use it, takes for ever to load. And if you need to load it for UAC or something, hopefully you shut it off, you will notice it unloads and loads agin just to read one silly little dialogue box.
Yeah I know! What the heck did they do to it? I went through my sound scheme tree thingy and narrator took a couple mins (seriously!) to finally say "Windows sounds with over 20 children" or something to that effect, after I had gone through the whole list! But yeah the start menu's great! And the find feature in Vista! Anyone tried that?
